Rookie Mistake #1 (I'm sure of many): We got back from our maiden voyage in the fiver without problem. We went thru the process of setting up, hooking up, and resting up. On the second day back my Google Calendar reminded me it was time to clean the toilet flush seal and lubricate it with plumber's grease. ( I entered all my maintenance duties into the calendar, and each day or so it reminds me of a needed inspection or maintenance project.) Not the most pleasant job, but one that has to be done regularly. So out to turn off water, and in to clean and lub. Water back on, job finished, No problem, done and done. About thirty minutes later my wife whose hearing has not yet succumbed to age as has mine says "I hear water bubbling somewhere. Huh. I don't hear it but I start checking. First the basement, no water here, next the bathroom, tiny problem. There seems to be water coming up the shower drain and filling up the shower pan. ...

Maiden Voyage: We have completed our maiden voyage in the fiver, and it was a total success. With Russ, and experienced camper as my co-pilot I pulled my Solitude to Lake Tawakoni State park, backed it in to park it, hooked it up, and lived without sewer connection for three days. If you never had to limit your water usage for a few days because there is only so much space to store it you can’t imagine that part of the experience, but it was interesting. While we were there we hiked, ate, slept, read, ate, slept, read ate, etc. It was great. It is a clean, well-kept park. The spaces are well separated and the campers were considerate. I could not have asked for more in my first camping experience. Pam got right into it with the reading, eating, sleeping and (tada) hiking. She is gonna be a good partner. Anyway on Sunday they began to forecast lots of rain for Sunday night and Monday. We decided that discretion was the...

It finally happened… Today is the first day of my camping life. We actually are parked at Lake Tawakoni State Part in our fiver camping day one. We weren’t planning on coming until this morning, but Russ and Karen and Pam and I got excited yesterday afternoon and just hitched up and came. It is only 50 miles from home, but it may as well be in another universe. I even parked it myself! It is just what I thought it would be. I got up this morning,, saw the sun coming up over the lake from my back porch, and took its picture. It is just like all those pictures in all those blogs I’ve been reading for years now, but it is actually me. This the view from my back porch today! Maybe I need an arm pinch, but I know it really is happening. We will see what the day brings, but it can only be fantastic. I know it seems like I have never been to the lake before, I never have, not like this, and this is just day one. Do ...

Time Marches On: 2/15/2017 Painters have been here. Some of our stuff, but not nearly enough, is gone. Carpet man is next on the list. But first we are going to take our first camping trip. Russ and Karen who have two trucks with hitches are going to get us out to Lake Tawakani State Park and we are going to spend 5 days camping. I better say "glamping" rather than camping. I do not feel that I will be giving up any comforts of my sticks and bricks, only the view out my window is gonna change. We are very excited, We will continue with pictures and a report from the lake.

Hello 2017! 1/15/2017 Welcome to 2017 and the year of the big shift from sticks and bricks to total Rockin' RoVer mode. Having said that, I have no idea about when or even if 2017 really is the year. It is the year we are planning on it all happening. It is the year we are shooting for. It is the year on our vision board. It is the year we will be downsizing and putting our S&B home up for sale. It is the year we will be moving into our fifth wheel, if we can sell our house. It is the year we plan to buy a tow vehicle so we can move our fifth wheel if we can sell our house. It is the year we will take our first big trip, if we can sell our house. All that said, there are about a billion other things that could send this train off on a siding before it happens, but it does no good to worry about what I can not control, so we will focus on what we can control. We will be getting the painters here in January to to...
