We are still here. Nope, we did not fall off the map, we have just been busy being back in Texas.  We decided to cut our winter/spring trip short because of Pam's dad.  In a series of events he ended up in the hospital with a very poor prognosis for recovery, and we felt we needed to be here.  As it turned out, even though he was in very poor condition when we got here. He has progressed amazingly well since our return.  He is still in a nursing home recovering, but we know he is feeling better because he complains a lot.  Anyway, our dash across country ( 5 days from the east coast) made for an interesting trip.  We stopped several times along the way at places we meant to spend time, but just overnight-ed.  We stopped in Asheville, NC, Chattanooga, TN, Jennings Ferry, AL, and Poverty Point, LA,. All were quick in and quick out. Since we have been home we have visited the kids several times, spent time with friends in the area, spent a lot of ti...

Hello East Coast.. Even though we actually did make "a day trip" to the east coast forty years ago when we were stationed in Valdosta, Georgia to see the Atlantic Ocean,  it was a quick visit (actually minutes as I remember) and we turned around that windy day and left, vowing never to return.  The blowing  sand stinging our skin and sand fleas nibbling our legs was more than we could stand.  It was unpleasant and very short.  This time the experience has been outstanding.  I am also now old enough to appreciate the history and uniqueness of the area. We left Gulf Shores, Alabama on March 1 with our first stop at Torreya State Park in "lost in the woods" Florida.  It really was in the middle of nowhere.  The most interesting thing about the shady park was some really nice people and the time zones.   We never could figure out what time it  actually was  even though it was in the Eastern time zone and our cell phones wer...

Oh Yeah!  This is what I expected. After all the "fun" we had in January, ick,  February has been just the opposite.  Me and Mom have healed up from our colds, we got the truck repaired and back on January 31 and just in time to move, and the jet stream moved back north and let some warm air in from the south.  Thank goodness, now this is just what I expected. Things really looked up in February.  The temperature went from blowing and  cold to breezy and  warm.  We were finally able to go to the beach anytime during the day in shorts and flip-flops.   We really worked on getting it down to an art.  Grab two  chairs with shoulder straps, two towels, one tarp, and one cooler and go.  Five minutes to the beach, pick a spot, sun, read, sleep, repeat.  When you live at the beach, you can go for a couple of hours and not feel that you have to stay all day to get you moneys worth.  The weather and sunshine has bee...
