Home is where you park it…..for a month:
Well here we are in Pagosa Springs
Colorado. We came in earlier this week planning
to stay for maybe 10 days to 2 weeks, but when we priced the stay , (they do
not have a web site so we had to wait till we got here for the complete price
breakdown) it only cost about $50 more to stay for a month. So guess what, we signed up for a month. Even if we only stay 3 weeks it is still
cheaper ($20/day) than the day to day rate ($40/day). Anyway, we are at home here for a while. It is not plush but it is very clean, very
quiet, and very shady. Of course I didn’t
mention that price includes all bills, a Saturday morning breakfast, and a BBQ
blowout on the 4th of July.
| We really do feel like we have the best spot in the park. |
There are two old geezers who run
the place, Jan (Yan) and Harvey. Harvey
owns the park, in fact he built everything here himself. He’s only 85.
Jan is his best lifelong friend.
Jan is 87. They are really funny
because they have known each other so long they can complete each other’s
jokes. They really only have two
duties. They meet every camper and
personally guide them into their parking space, and they ride around all day on
a golf cart doing “valet” garbage pickup.
Really it is a pretty sweet deal since they both live in Florida and
spend 4 months up here each year running the park. The rest of the time the park is closed.
So what is there to do here in
Pagosa Springs? Plenty, it is a tourist
trap top to bottom. Their main claim to
fame is the hot springs that bubble up out of the ground. People have been coming here for a long time
just for that. There are several bath
houses/ resorts which have numerous “hot tubs” for tourist soakers. If you are too tight to pay for a soak, there
are the “hippi hot tubs”. Those are the
various pools along the river that runs through town where the hot springs
bubble up. Not as nice as the resort
tubs which tap tap into the springs, but free for hippies and fat old farts who
won’t pay. Before you make your joke, we already went and
toured the oldest bath house in town and made our plan to return for a
soak. By the way, the main mineral in
the water is Sulphur, and yes, you can smell it. Not too bad, but you notice it. I’m sure it is good for you.

If hot springs is not your deal,
there are several businesses which will rent you an inner tube to float down
the river and its white water rapids. Probably
gonna do that too since we’re gonna be here a while. Rapids are probably class 0.5 so Mom and I
will be pretty safe unless we run into one of the hippies sitting in a free hot
tub along the river.
You all saw the pictures of
Treasure Falls. That is about 15 miles
out of town at the base of Wolf Creek Pass.
It was a short hike, but pretty much up, up, up. Mom did great and we both got up to where we
could see it really well. There are a
lot of places like that out here. The
good thing is that since we are here for a month, we don’t have to rush to see
them all it week, we can take our time. After
the excitement of yesterday we are staying home today reading, blogging,
working on the trailer, and generally taking it easy.
Well, that is a pretty good update. We will be doing lots more exploring that I will get to tell you about, but for now these are just some ramblings from an old Rockin RoVer rocking and roving on. Thanks

This is one fantastic blog.
