Down Sizing:
This weekend we started the dreaded down-sizing with a giant garage sale.

My daughter, the garage sale expert, came from Dallas to help. She was indeed a help. Not only did she help set up and price, she also kept prodding me and Mimi to let go of our stuff. Sometimes, as most who have been through this process know, it is not as easy as it would seem. After all, as I look at all these tables, most of this stuff I haven't even seen months, even years, but it was nice to know it was back in some cubby hole waiting to be used: Year, after year, after year. After all, who wants to give up on half a blender, or a box of used wires? Not me. But I let them pry these treasures from my hand and now I'm
feeling much better. I no longer care what happens to them. Sold, donated, trashed, it does not matter as long as I don't have to store them any more. It is very freeing. In fact, I feel kind of foolish for keeping them this long. Of course the item on the left below was not a foolish keep.
Can you believe that most people who came to the garage sale did not even know what this was. Never mind that it has been obsolete for 10 years. I have one. By the way, it is an oil can spout. Buy any cans of oil lately? As my granddad would say, "it's as useless as tits on a bore hog". He would have used that phrase many times over in the last two days. We really worked hard, but also had a great time. The people who came by were really nice, and many found a treasure they could take home and store. They were also interested and supportive when we told them we were selling out and going on an RV adventure.
Was the sale a success? Well if you look at it as a really quick way to turn $15000 dollars worth of stuff into $1500 cash t was a smashing success. If you look at it as giant step toward freedom to get on the road, again a smashing success. I guess any way you look at it, it was a smashing success. It was so good we intend to do it again in a few weeks.
So until we rest a bit and make another run at "down-sizing", these are just the ramblings of an old Rockin' RoVer rocking and roving on. Thanks.
